Here are some good ingredients to use:

1- Green leafy vegetables – These include kale and spinach, which are filled with protein and vitamins A, E and K. They contain carbohydrates that are filled with nutrients, but with few calories, and provide sustainable energy for the body.

2- Berries – All kinds are beneficial because they contain antioxidants, which are known to increase energy and add balance to the body, reduce disease in the body, and increase immunity. Darker berries contain resveratrol in their skins, which is a compound that helps to increase heart health. Berries also contain fiber that keeps the digestive system functioning and reduces cholesterol.

3- Fruits – Try various kinds that blend well together like peaches, bananas, mangoes, pineapples, and oranges. They are full of vitamin C that boosts immunity and gives you strength.

4- Apples – They contain fiber, which fill you up and reduces the cholesterol. One of the best ingredients in apples is quercetin.

5- Seeds – These add a nice texture to your energy drink if added, or you can even grind them into powder to use. Seeds also add protein that is needed to fight sugar cravings. Try some flaxseeds and wheat germ to add a bit of fiber to your drink.
You can combine fruits and vegetables in whatever combination that best suits you for that energy-packed punch. If you wish, you can sweeten it with fruit juice, nutmeg, or cinnamon.

A few recipes that you can try out at home:

Energy Smoothie – 1 banana, 1 cup strawberries, 1 cup of yogurt or soy milk, and 1 cup of green leafy vegetables. Combine the ingredients in a blender, strain and use.

Berry Smoothie – Generous amount of frozen berries of your choice, 1 cup low-fat plain yogurt, and ice cubes. The natural flavor of the berries is enough to sweeten the smoothie, and if you want more liquid or want to sweeten it, add ¼ cup of apple juice.

Green Smoothie – ½ cup carrots, ice cubes, plain yogurt, ½ cup apple juice, and Swiss chard. Combine all the ingredients, strain and use.

A Coconut Spirulina Energy Drink – You need coconut water and ½ tsp. Spirulina powder. Pour coconut water into a sports bottle and mix in the spirulina powder. Tightly close the bottle and shake well. If you don’t like the taste of spirulina, you can take the tablets down with the coconut water, too.

Coconut water is potassium rich and nature’s best isotonic drink, while Spirulina is a protein-rich algae that contains 8 essential and 10 non-essential amino acids, potassium and energy giving vitamins like B1, B2, and B6, and magnesium, an essential mineral for energy.

Banana Wheat Grass Smoothie – 3 large sweet bananas, 2 cups cold water, 1 Tbsp.. Wheat grass powder. Process all ingredients in the blender till smooth; pour into bottle and consume. Wheat grass is a great source of protein, potassium, magnesium, and B complex.

Tea Energy Drink – 2 tea bags (you can use green tea because it is low in caffeine or sometimes even caffeine free), 6 tsp. Sugar, 2 ounces of lemon juice, a pinch of salt, and 30 ounces of boiling water. Add the tea bags to boiling water and let it steep for some time. When cool, remove the tea bags and add sugar, lemon juice, and salt. Stir and use.

Egg Yolk and Carrot Juice – 1 large cup of freshly extracted carrot juice and 1 egg yolk.
Add the egg yolk to the carrot juice and mix well with a fork. Add ½ tsp. Of spirulina powder for an extra boost and consume. Egg yolk stimulates sluggish, exhausted adrenal glands, while carrot juice is nourishing, improves blood quality that helps relive fatigue, and is highly cleansing.

Refreshing Apple Cider Drink – 2 tsps. Raw, unpasteurized apple cider vinegar, 16 ounces cold water, 2 tsps. Pure maple syrup/raw agave syrup/raw coconut nectar (for people with diabetes: 2 tsps. Yacon syrup/2 tsps. Coconut sugar or raw coconut nectar/4 drops stevia). Transfer all the ingredients into a bottle, shake well, and use.
Apple cider vinegar contains good amounts of magnesium, potassium, phosphorous, B1, B2, and B6.

Where can I buy a 'yakon' in Manila?

May be spelled 'yacon'?

see the image of yacon in this link.

Below is an excerpt from a blog I found here.
"Yacon is sweet with a slight tinge of a gingerly taste to it. And although sweet, it doesn’t affect one’s sugar level. No wonder it's popular among those with diabetes and those watching their weight. The reason for this is that supposedly, yacon store carbohydrates in the form of insulin and not starch. Its high fiber content makes it effective against constipation as well. And there are those who claim that yacon also purifies the blood.

It costs P30 per kilo at the Baguio market. From what I understand, about ten years ago, one could get them in Metro Manila at the weekend markets of Cubao in Quezon City and Magallanes in Makati only. The price then was about a hundred pesos per kilo. Nonetheless, many people purchased yacon for its healing properties."

I saw some in SM supermarket in Makati. Try to ask assistance from sales clerk.

What can I eat do keep my energy levels up throughout the day (Moment V.tired once I get home)?

Hey I get up at 6:15 AM and finish college at 4:15 PM getting home at 5:30 PM and so a tired when I get home, however I don't want to be as I have things to do like revision, homework and me time which I don't wanna' spend sleeping.

I tend to SKIP breakfast but am going to start eating it in attempt to have more energy during the day but this will be cereal (Nesquick to be exact LOL) any suggestions what else I could make? I'm 16 and get up before any of my family on weekdays. So any suggestions other than this?

Right now I could get home and just sleep all day. I just want foods that will keep me energised. At the moment if I'm tired I'll have some coke from the canteen at school which will wake me up etc.

Thanks in advance for answering, will pick a Best answer eventually.

You need to take care of your blood sugar levels, so breakfast really is important when starting your day, otherwise you will feel tired. Sugar is not the answer, as it is a quick fix, giving you a sudden 'high' and then a sudden 'low.' which can eventually lead to diabetes.

I find Scotts porridge oats cooked in water sustains me through to lunch, or sometimes cold porridge oats with goats milk. Here are some ideas that might be helpful:

Organic Cornflakes

Porridge oats, cooked in water with added organic unsulphured dried apricots (or without). A dash of goats milk can be added towards the end.

Porridge oats (uncooked), with goats milk poured over with pumpkin seeds/sunflower seeds/ blueberries.

Jordans Organic Oat Crunchy (only the organic one). It does contain raw cane sugar.

Puffed Rice

Yacon and Goji Berry cereal – Waitrose

Wheat-free muesli

Rice Cakes or Corn Thins with goats/sheeps cheese

Live goats yoghurt with banana/pumpkin seeds/blueberries

Dr. Gillian McKeith’s Living Energy bar (this is supposed to be a complete meal). Some of the other bars may contain inappropriate ingredients.

Omelette/poached egg and baked beans

Frozen mixed berries (Waitrose) – liquidise with cranberry juice

Matzo biscuit with goats/sheeps cheddar on top and placed under the grill

Rye toast (Poilane Country Loaf) – from Waitrose is excellent with hummous

Live goats/sheeps yoghurt with chopped fresh fruits, sunflower seeds and pumpkins

Remember your coke may have around 8-10 teaspoons of white sugar in it, and if it is diet coke, then that is even worse as it will contain 'Aspartame.' Http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JkS1adbM8…

A handful of mixed unsalted nuts may help with your energy levels late afternoon. I do hope you feel good soon!
