I have been on ritalin 60mg a day for about 4 years now for ahdd. I'm 22 and have been taking 1 mg of clonazepam twice daily for the last 4 months for social anxiety and anxiety in general.. I have started using 5-htp and I seems to be really boosting my mood and helping my anxiety too. I have cut my clonazepam to once daily now just in the morning and not at night since starting. I hear 5-htp is bad for the heart and ritalin isn't too good for it either so is this a safe mix. It's working really good for me but I dont want to risk heart diesease..anyone taking the 2 and having doing well?

I don't have health insurance and have mild depression, anxiety, insomnia….etc. Since I cannot afford a prescription anti-depressant, I was told to try this. Please tell me if it worked for you, how it made you feel, what brand you buy and where you buy it. Right now I have a bottle of Nature's Bounty 100mg. I got it at K-mart. I have been taking one pill at night and one in the morning for the past 4 days. When will I start feeling results? Thank you so much if you can help me out. 🙂
5-HTP helps, but is far from a cure all. I try to stick to the established name brands, like Solaray, Now Foods, and Doctor's Best (to name a few). I can safely tell you what works and antidepressants are not among those. 5-HTP is only a small part of the things you have to do. Treating depression requires a multi-pronged attack. One, you have to feed your subconscious mind with positive thoughts. The best advice I can give you on that is Dr. David Burns' book, "The Feeling Good Handbook". Second, you have to make sure that you're eating a super healthy, nutrient rich, Calorie poor diet. That means lots of natural foods. For more on that, read Dr. Joel Fuhrman's book, "Eat to Live". Finally, avoid negative people and get out and get some exercise…. Preferrably in the sun with positive people. It really is that simple.
Oy, I have a doctor's appointment coming up this Monday and I'm a nervous WRECK. I missed last year's check-up, and my birthday is next month so they may do a 2-in-1 appointment this time. I have NO idea if I'm supposed to get any vaccinations this time. I was told that I do not need any until I'm 16 [I'm 14] but I'm well aware that things change.
